The CDP Parkour Scavenger Hunt was born from two very special dogs. Year one we celebrated Hannah, a beautiful rescue girl who’s people are a big part of the CDP Family. And my dear girl, Charlotte; who passed last summer. Both were athletic and spunky girls who always infused fun in every adventure they could have. The Scavenger hunt lives on this year in hopes that more Calgarian’s get to make some great memories adventuring with their favorite canine friends.
Let’s focus on a FUN ADVENTURE with our favorite Canine Companions!
This fun competitive hunt can be done with friends OR just you and your favorite doggo friend.
This hunt is designed with all parkour skill levels in mind!
GET READY TO HUNT!
The Hunt STARTS June 15th and ends July 27th!
$30 per Team
Each team can have multiple canines but only 1 handler.
The Details:
Dog Parkour is meant to be a fun and safe activity you can enjoy almost ANYWHERE with your Canine Companion. It’s a great thing to do with friends but also fun independently. This is our THIRD year holding the Calgary Dog Parkour Scavenger hunt, and we are changing things up a bit more to add more hunting into the mix!
As we do each year, we want to give you even more incentive to get out and play with your dog while we celebrate the life of a parkour loving girl – Charlotte. This Scavenger hunt will be PACKED with loads of fun and opportunities to learn and grow in this sport with your team.
Be ready with your adventure shoes – this year a map will be available to you at the beginning of your first hunt day; once the location is found you’re job will be to track down our special Calgary Dog Parkour QR code. With phone and leash in hand this QR code will present you with your dogs parkour behaviour AND the obstacle to be used. Be ready to adventure, explore and parkour your way through this challenge!
QR Code – some locations will not have a QR Code due to the area itself. In these locations there will be a question that related historically to the location. Answer the question correctly to get the info needed for your challenge.
How to use a QR Code: Once you have found our special QR Code open the camera on your phone and point it towards the QR code. This will ask if you want to open the link – click on the link and it will take you to a website page showing you the challenge (and if there are any side challenges).
Once you have registered feel free to ask to join our Facebook group: CDP Scavenger Hunt 2024
Submit your photos and side challenge videos via the google forms link posted on this page and on the facebook page. (This will not be available until June 15th).
How to Play Details:
Below is a step by step –
1) Pick on the map the location you want to visit. (Each location is a green paw print). Note they do NOT need to be done in any order – pick whichever ones that work for you!
2) Once you pick the location – click on the little directions icon after clicking on the map location you plan to visit to get directions to this location. Follow the directions to the location.
3) A- when you arrive at the location, get out and look around a bit. You will be looking for our special Parkour QR code. Each QR code has both the Calgary Dog Parkour Logo and the Paws-n-Relax logo. They are all located close to where you will be parked via the Google map directions. These will be on things like lamp posts, garbage cans; etc., to decrease being a bother to others some are a bit more out of the way. Once you find the QR code – use the camera on your phone pointed at the code to bring up your parkour challenge.
*can’t find the QR code? Refer back to the map where there will be a link to a page with a photo reference of where you will find it.*
B- some locations do NOT have QR codes for various reasons. These will have questions (mostly history questions about the actual location) added to the location on the map. Use the answer as the password to enter the page linked to the location on the map. This will take you directly to your parkour challenge.
4) Each location has a unique parkour photo challenge. Some take a bit of wandering to find, and some may be a bit trickier for your team. It is your job to hunt the same obstacle found on the locations web page and do your best to replicate said image shown. I will be slightly lenient with these images but it must be the same object so be keen on this.
5) Bonus Side Challenges: many of the locations will have bonus side challenges. These will likely require a tripod or friend to video as many require a video uploaded to YouTube. These side challenges do not effect the grand prize in any way so please do not feel obligated to do them. Side challenges will be more challenging overall, require more hunting and each achieved will add the team onto the “random wheel of prizes”. Random prizes will be drawn for at the end of the hunt and the amount of draws will be dependent on the amount of entries. For each side challenge entered you will receive your name on the wheel once.
6) *Last but MOST IMPORTANT *
Submitting your photos (and side challenge videos). Use the Google forms found on the link at the top of this page. To submit your photos and videos by 11:59pm on Saturday, July 27th. *note: You can submit this form as often as you wish – duplicated location entries will not be counted – but you can submit one after each location if you wish or gather a few (or all) to submit together. Please be mindful to match the location numbers with the images /you tube video links. If they are not matched properly they will NOT be counted.
*Important note: any questions/concerns or technical difficulties should be directed to Hello@pawsnrelax.net . I will attempt to answer within 48 hours but will not be answering fb messages, or other communication means in regards to this hunt. I also will not verify photos or videos etc. *
If for some reason a QR code goes missing- please do not fret. Email above with photo of where you are sure it should be located letting me know. Once confirmed, it will be replaced with a question/answer and you will have your name added to the random prize draw for the inconvenience. Since these are all out in the “wild” I can not guarantee this will not happen though I hope it will not.
I look forward to hearing all your adventure stories about the hunt. Feel free to talk about silly or extra fun side adventures on the special Scavenger hunt page, Calgary Dog Parkour page, or your own personal social media. Remember sharing the hunt photos / videos or specifically helping teams not with you physically find the obstacles to do so will invalidate your entry and theirs for the hunt. So please do not do this – I want everyone to enjoy the adventures and share their enjoyment without making it unfair to other teams.
The Rules:
Parkour is a TEAM sport. This means dogs must be worked on appropriate equipment at all times (back clip harness and 6 ft leash). The only exception in which the dog may be off leash (or leash dragging) is for under or around in SAFE environments.
Spotting must be used when appropriate to do so – for this contest you can assume anything your dog is getting off of that is above elbow height needs to be spotted (under 18 months teams should be spotted on anything over stopper pad height). Check out about spotting here and do not hesitate to reach out with any questions.
Teams found to have posted/shared any hunt photos or helped another team(s) not physically with them find those spots will not only forfeit their entry for competition portion of the hunt but also the teams that benefited from it.
No Aversive Tools – use of aversive tools will forfeit your entry, this includes having aversive tools on during your photos.
No manipulation or force – like aversive tools, manipulating or forcing your dog to do the behaviour will forfeit your entry. Both members of the team (dog and handler) should be willing participants. Lifting, pulling or forcing your dog in other ways to complete any behaviours will deem your whole entry void.
Participants – This Scavenger hunt is open to everyone to play within the Calgary area. All locations will be within the city of Calgary. It is not expected that teams will finish ALL the locations – and even if you are unable to finish many there will be a few ‘side adventures’ that will increase your chances for prizes!
One of Charlotte’s favorite parts of parkour was going out and exploring new areas. Because of this, I challenge you all to explore a bit outside of your comfort zone when able to.
Behaviours:
New to Parkour or want to refresh your knowledge? Check out this page for behaviours that will be in play for this scavenger hunt!
